Crews are making great progress repairing damage from severe thunderstorms last night that left more than 28,000 Appalachian Power customers without electric service.
Last night severe thunderstorms with high winds and heavy rain rolled across Appalachian Power’s service area. The storm left more than 28,000 customers without electric service, including 23,000 in West Virginia.

More than 95% of customers affected by Friday’s storm have had service restored. Currently, there are roughly 1,000 customers without power in Virginia, and approximately 3,000 who remain out in West Virginia.
Workers made tremendous progress on Sunday getting the power restored to 22,000 customers after completing repairs at 1,100 locations.
Power is back on for 104,000 customers, and more than 3,000 workers are in the field repairing facilities to restore service for the remaining 26,000 customers.
Workers have restored service to 83,000 customers. The restoration effort to get power back on to the remaining 47,000 customers includes more than 2,300 company employees and contract workers.
